Event description

This accredited training course is perfect for those new to flood modelling or Jacobs’ Flood Modeller software. By the end of this course, you will appreciate the pros and cons of 2D modelling and the data required in order to undertake it. You will have a good understanding of the 2D functionality (ADI, TVD and FAST solvers) within the software and know when it is applicable to apply each solver. You will be able to use the software for a variety of modelling applications where full 2D or 1D-2D linked models are required.

The course will allow you to familiarise yourself with the various tools and features within the software, allowing you to build your own 2D model, run simulations, troubleshoot common modelling issues and interpret results. The training course is provided through a series of presentations, practical exercises and additional self-learning materials, which include complementary training videos.

Course structure:

You will cover a range of topics through the training, including:

  • Introduction to 2D modelling
  • Building a 2D ADI model
  • Running simulations
  • Incorporating roughness, topographic features, and flood defences
  • Direct rainfall/surface water/pluvial modelling
  • Multiple 2D domain modelling
  • Flood hazard mapping
  • Validating results using the 2D TVD and 2D FAST solvers
  • Embedding 1D structures within a 2D domain
  • 1D river-2D linking (high-level overview)

Additional online and in-person versions of the course are available, see below or on the course page for more information.

This course is approved by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management and attendance will contribute toward your continuing professional development (CPD).

Elliot has been using Flood Modeller for 6 years. He has successfully delivered a wide range of hydraulic modelling and hydrological related projects, and is also involved in the testing of Flood Modeller.

Additional Information

The in-person version of this course is delivered in one day. The course starts at 09:30 and finishes at 17:00.

The online version of this course is delivered across two-days. It consists of four sessions, with each session being delivered across a two-hour period. Two sessions are delivered each day with the first session in the morning followed by a second session in the afternoon.

Prior to the training, you will receive a detailed document which provides all the information you need to undertake the course, including the agenda, links to the various resources, and details on how to access Flood Modeller.

Each attendee must provide their own laptop to undertake the training. However, a one-month Flood Modeller Standard edition training license (worth £600) is provided to each attendee.
