Event description

This tour will look at landscape ecology and water management on the Blenheim Estate and cover the following topics: the climate resilient catchment, net zero landscape and the catchment integrated water and environmental management approach.

The event will be led by Blenheim Estate staff including Dr David Gasca, Head of Natural Capital and will suit anyone with an interest in learning more about working with nature and considering landscape scale land and water management.

The tour will take in a variety of landscapes and management types including arable land, hedging, limestone grassland, game management, tree planting, floodplain reconnection, rivers, wet woodland.

This event is open to CIWEM members and non-members.

About the speakers

Dr Dave Gasca

David Gasca is Head of Natural Capital at Blenheim Palace. He has 25 years of experience in the field of land management, natural capital, and nature-based solutions.

His role at Blenheim includes the development of management strategies, monitoring plans and opportunity mapping to inform feasibility, design and ground-delivery of natural capital schemes.

With a background in hydrology, his particular areas of interest include wetland habitat creation, river restoration, natural flood and water quality management, and hydro-ecology.

About the venue and getting there

The meeting point for this site visit at Woottondown Cottages, Woodstock, Oxfordshire (SP 444757 221407 - W3W///sleeps.bungalows.stretcher).

There is car parking available at the meeting point and the closest main line train station is at Long Hanborough.

As the event is outside, appropriate clothes for mixed terrain and the weather conditions will be required.

Travelling to the venue

By Train

Hanborough railway station (OX29 8LA) is the nearest mainline railway station to the meeting point and pick up from there can be arranged if needed.

By Bus

There are no local bus routes to the meeting point.

By foot | cycle

The meeting point is within cycling distance from Heyford station (OX6 8UL).

By car

If you are coming by car, please consider sharing the journey with others to reduce your environmental footprint.
