Event description

Although there had been a handful of small, innovative NFM projects in the past, the UK government’s natural flood management programme was introduced to understand more fully how nature-based solutions can be used at a large scale as part of the toolbox to reduce flood risk and improve habitats.

This webinar will provide an overview of the programme and the next steps in the journey to mainstreaming nature-based solutions. It will cover the different terminology around natural flood management, the interventions used, how the programme was managed, as well as the lessons learnt and how these can be incorporated into future projects.

This talk is open to all, particularly those with an interest in flood and coastal risk management.

Part of the CIWEM Flood Resilience digital series.

About the speaker

Jon Hollis MCIWEM, C.WEM

Jon Hollis is a nature-based solutions senior advisor at the Environment Agency. He is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager an experienced Programme Manager working for the Environment Agency. Originally a cartographer, Jon moved into programme management in 2007, and has developed, monitored and managed several programmes. He’s had roles in business planning and allocations.

The £15m Natural Flood Management (NFM) Programme Jon managed has learnt more about NFM measures to support others to make more use of them. The programme has enabled Jon to work with practitioners and ministers alike. He’s passionate about sharing that knowledge to encourage and enable others to do more. He has an international network, and is developing tools to make information about NFM more accessible to all. Having grown up in the fens, Jon has always loved the outdoors and it’s no surprise that his career is in the environment sector.

Out of work you will likely find him walking in the countryside with a camera around his neck trying to capture landscape and wildlife picture.
