Event description

Join us for a technical talk and guided walkover of the Lisnabreeny Natural Flood Management (NFM) Pilot in South Belfast. This session will showcase installed leaky dams within the Cregagh Glen as part of a trial NFM (Natural Flood Management) scheme.

The talk will cover the development of the NFM plan for both Lisnabreeny and Cregagh Glen. This project was funded by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) in partnership with the National Trust.

This is an excellent opportunity for CPD, outdoor learning, networking, and seeing natural flood management in action.

About the speaker

Duncan Chapman | Hydraulic Modeller | Jacobs

Duncan is a Principal Hydraulic Modeller at Jacobs with nine years of experience in complex hydraulic modelling and hydrological studies. For this project, he contributed to hydrology appraisal, site walkovers, survey supervision, and co‑leading stakeholder workshops. He is enthusiastic about the potential of this trial to support wider implementation of natural flood management across Northern Ireland.

About the venue and getting there

The talk will take place Oxbow Room, The Four Winds, 111 Newton Park, Belfast, BT8 6LX and we will follow this with a visit to see the NFM project site at National Trust - Cregagh Glen, Manse Road, Belfast, BT8 6SA.

Please arrive at The Four Winds from 16:30 and follow signs for the Oxbow Room.

The talk will start promptly at 17:00.

We will walk together on the footpath along Manse Road to National Trust Cregagh Glen, where we will join the walking trail and follow this to the installed leaky dams. The walk is approximately fifteen minutes.

We then return the same route to the Four Winds pub for 18:30.

Sturdy footwear and outdoor‑appropriate clothing is recommended for the walkover in Cregagh Glen.

Travelling to the venue

By Train

Lanyon Place railway station in East Bridge Street, Belfast BT1 3NR is a half hour bus ride from the venue for those travelling from outside the city.

By Bus | Coach

Europa Bus Centre, Europa Business Centre, 10 Glengall Street, Belfast BT12 5AH is around half an hour by bus from the Four Winds venue for those coming to the event by bus or coach.

By car
