Event description

The CIWEM Northern Ireland branch is delighted to be hosting their annual conference. This year it will be a joint event with the CIWEM Urban Drainage Group reviewing storm overflows throughout the UK and Europe and discussing how the wastewater industry is adapting to the challenges, both technical, innovative and strategic whilst striving for net zero.

The conference starts with an introduction and report on the state of the nation for the UK, followed by three sessions, covering strategic planning, potential solutions and innovation. 12 speakers will contribute to an engaging discussion, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and debate.

At the end of the conference, there will be opportunities to network with like-minded professionals. Lunch and light refreshments are included in the price.

CIWEM members and non-members are welcome.

Demand for the event is anticipated to be high, so early booking is recommended.

Part of the Land & Water Management series.

About the venue and getting there

The event will take place at the Penthouse Suite in the Europa Hotel, Great Victoria Street, Belfast BT2 7AP. The hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from the nearest mainline rail and bus stations.

Travelling to the venue

As part of CIWEM’s commitment to tackling the climate and ecological emergency we would encourage delegates to use the most environmentally sustainable means of transport possible.

By Train | Underground | Tram

Great Victoria Street railway station is the nearest mainline railway station to the Europa Hotel and is on Great Victoria Street Belfast. The venue is a 2-minute walk from the train station.

By Bus | Coach

The Europa Hotel is only 1 minutes’ walk from the Europa Buscentre, Europa Business Centre, 10 Glengall Street, Belfast BT12 5AH.

By car

If you are coming by car, please consider sharing the journey with others to reduce your environmental footprint. Parking is provided at Great Victoria Street railway station and other parking facilities are located close by within 5-minutes’ walk.

By air

If you are traveling to Northern Ireland by air, then Belfast International Airport is approximately a 40-minute drive and Belfast City is approximately 15-minute drive from the venue.

However, we would encourage you to reduce your environmental footprint by travelling from the airport into the city via rail.

If you are an inbound passenger travelling onward from Belfast City Airport, you can board a train at Sydenham rail halt, just a short distance by foot along the Sydenham Bypass from the terminal building, and travel to Great Victoria Street station, which is the nearest mainline rail station to the Europa Hotel.

If you are returning to Belfast City Airport via train, you will want to disembark at Sydenham rail halt and make the short journey by foot along the Sydenham Bypass to the terminal building.
Train services depart from Sydenham train station regularly during peak times which means you are always conveniently connected to the city centre. A courtesy bus is available to transport passengers to and from the terminal free of charge and can be requested from the bus and coach stop to the left as you exit the terminal building. Proof of train travel may be requested.

A footbridge is present at Sydenham train station which passengers must cross either going to or coming from the airport. Therefore, we would advise passengers against this transport option if they have reduced mobility or experience difficulty when using steps.
Visit the NI Railways website for further information.

As this is an in-person event, please remain vigilant to control the spread of COVID-19 and stay safe.

We would request that if you think you might have contracted COVID or have recently had the disease, that you do not attend the conference.
