Event description

Natural flood management (NFM) methods are not totally new, but are growing in importance as a means of providing protection for people’s homes, property, land and business whilst working closely with nature and the environment.

The Environment Agency have been seeking to develop and spread the use of NFM techniques alongside the more traditional “hard engineering” processes.

Within the East Midlands area, the EA have peen piloting some NFM projects and this talk is intended to share knowledge and lessons learned from these pilot projects and look towards how the future of NFM could be used to tackle flood risk into the future. Learning opportunities include:

  • Knowledge of how NFM projects can be delivered from conception, through design and into construction
  • Lessons learned in approaching NFM and partnerships
