Event Description

The Wyre and Fylde Coast has been subject to major coast protection investment over the past decade. In order to further protect this vulnerable coastline, the £22m Fairhaven to Church Scar Coast Protection Scheme is currently under construction. This work will better protect approximately 2,500 properties from coastal erosion and sea flooding whilst also upgrading the Promenade and surrounding areas.

The Principal Contractor is VBA, a joint venture between VolkerStevin, Boskalis Westminster and Atkins, who have been appointed on behalf of Fylde Borough Council to undertake the works, funded by the Environment Agency.

This joint CIWEM/ICE event is an exciting opportunity to see first hand the construction phase of a major coastal protection scheme. The event will be split into two phases,

1. The group will meet at the Fylde Borough Council offices where Mike Pomfret (Project Manager, Fylde Borough Council) will talk about the project’s aims and design considerations. Refreshments will be provided beforehand

2. After the presentation the group will then meet at the site compound where we will be taken around the construction site which is at various stages of completion (please see PPE requirements below)

Please note: Delegates must bring their own suitable PPE to this event. This includes high vis jacket, hard hat, footwear with toe and midsole protection, goggles and gloves. Anyone without suitable clothing will unfortunately not be permitted to attend the site visit part of the session.
