Event description

In the context of the UK-Peru Government to Government agreement to support the reconstruction of Peru, basin scale reconstruction and protection are being designed and implemented to address the impacts of the 2017 Coastal El Nino event and future proof river basins in Peru against extreme climate events. The talk will provide:

  • an outline on the Peru Reconstruction with Changes Programme
  • A description of the approach of the Integrated Solutions sector, combining Natural Infrastructure, river defences and flood/sediment storage for 17 river basins, 7 urban drainage systems and 5 gully systems
  • Multidisciplinary technical assurance work on the development and implementation stages of the Integrated Solutions projects

About the speaker

Irantzu Lexartza Artza

Irantzu Lexartza Artza is a senior geomorphologist at the Water Environment and Catchment Science team in Arup, applying geomorphological understanding within a multidisciplinary setting in areas such as catchment management, river restoration, flood protection, climate resilience, water resources and WFD compliance.

Irantzu has recently returned to Leeds after a 2-year long-term assignment in Peru working on the Peru Reconstruction with Changes programme.

About the venue and getting there

The event will take place at the Arup offices, Arup Offices, 78 East Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS9 8EE. They are about 1 mile or 20 minutes’ walk from Leeds railway station and several bus routes run near the offices.

Travelling to the venue

Leeds railway station is at New Station Street, Leeds LS1 4DY. Northern Rail and TransPennine Express trains all go to Leeds Station for those coming from outside Leeds.

The no. 444 and 5 bus stops are 10 minutes’ walk from the Arup offices.

By car

Please note on-site parking is not available for delegates and the nearest car park is 8 minutes’ walk away. If you are coming by car, please consider sharing the journey with others to reduce your environmental footprint.
