Event description

The CIWEM Republic of Ireland branch invites you to their evening lecture using the Kerry Central Water Supply Scheme (WSS) project as a case study of delivering critical infrastructure under environmental constraints.

Kerry Central WSS was completed in 2019. It is amongst the largest water treatment plants in the country, supplying 62,000 people and capable of providing over 51ml of water per day. Surrounded by sensitive receptors including the Macgillycuddy Reeks and Caragh River SAC and in one of the most beautiful areas of our country, this project faced significant challenges. The scheme was developed and constructed in a manner to protect, and enhance this environment, while providing drinking water of a quality to meet and exceed the highest standards set out in the EU Drinking Water Directive.

This lecture will provide an overview of the project and of the various environmental challenges and constraints encountered and how these challenges were met.
