Event Description

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the CIWEM Scottish branch is scheduled to be held on Thursday 26 September 2019 at 3:00pm at Conference Room 8, Technology and Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde, 99 George Street, Glasgow G1 1RD.

Following the CIWEM Scottish branch AGM there will be a new members’ group event in conjunction with the CIWEM Urban Drainage Group, which will start at 6:30pm, with time for networking from 6:00pm.

The new members’ evening event will be made up of three presentations.

In the first session, Oliver Jarrett, CIWEM Scottish branch committee member will talk about the benefits of becoming or developing your CIWEM membership, including routes to membership advise and what these can add to your career.

After the introduction to CIWEM we are delighted that Peter Robinson, head of engineering for Scottish canals and Professor Scott Arthur, dean at Heriot Watt University and an elected Councillor in Edinburgh, will deliver two technical talks.

Peter’s presentation is on Glasgow’s Smart Canal where he will tell us about the North Glasgow Integrated Water Management System (NGIWMS) concept, outlining the creation of this pioneering drainage system, using a scheduled ancient monument and modern technology to unlock regeneration within Scotland’s Central belt. Using exemplar sustainable drainage principles, the system uses the canal to provide flood risk reduction, water quality management and habitat improvement for local communities.

Professor Arthur plays an active role on the Transport and Environment Committee at the council. His talk will cover his recently published two CIRA guides on green infrastructure and his contribution to the SUDS Manual, reviewing how natural capital assessments can be used to mitigate the impact of urban development.

Refreshments will be available from 18:00 for Networking before start time
