As part of the CIWEM Rivers and Coastal Group’s 70th year celebrations, we invite you to a site visit with South West branch, Environment Agency and Team Van Oord to the recently completed Stolford coastal protection scheme.
Overlooking the Bristol Channel, Stolford has a history of coastal erosion and is prone to flooding. Rising sea levels and more extreme weather conditions have made the ridge and embankment increasingly vulnerable to erosion and increased the risk of a breach. The most affordable solution to improve the resilience of the coastal defences was an innovative Dutch system known as Hillblock, a block revetment that uses a series of specially-shaped concrete blocks.
This is a chance to learn about innovative and partnership working solutions to coastal protection, working with natural processes, reduced carbon footprint, minimising landscape impacts and maintaining public access.Book now
