The talk will cover the key stages of undertaking a survey for rivers models. Starting with the preparation of the survey specification, and what the modeller / surveyor expects to be surveyed. With the surveyor having been appointed, then moving on to the preparation needed before the commencement of fieldwork.
After a brief look at the fieldwork itself, including cross sections and structures as well as the survey management, the talk will finish with the types of deliverables expected and survey quality control.
Robbie Cowan BSc MCInstCES MRICS
Robbie Cowan is a chartered land surveyor with nearly 30 years’ professional experience of survey work. This has involved a wide range of project types, including topographic, hydrographic, measured building and land use survey, working across the UK and Ireland as well as in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
He is the Chief Land Surveyor at JBA Consulting and heads an in-house team of surveyors and survey assistants, working across the UK. As Technical Director, he is also responsible for leading, guiding and supporting on all things survey related across the JBA business, from survey specifications through to QA of third-party survey data.
Robbie has been an active member of both the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) and RICS, sitting on various regional and national committees for much of his career. Robbie was elected to the CICES Council of Management in 2011 until 2016. He is past Chair of regional committees for both the CICES and RICS. He is keen to encourage young people into the industry and has been an active STEM ambassador since 2017 as well as a Nuffield Foundation research supervisor since 2019.
