Event description

Minworth is the largest wastewater treatment site of Severn Trent, and serves a population of nearly two million across Birmingham and the Black Country.

We will follow the wastewater treatment process, from entering the works, through primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment, and then to discharge to the River Tame. We will also see how sludge is processed, including at the new Thermal Hydrolysis Plant (THP), to reduce carbon emissions and support a circular economy.

Phil Powell, who is the senior technician for Minworth Wastewater Treatment Works, will accompany us through a tour of the sewage works. Having spent an incredible 42 years in the company, he has seen Minworth change a lot throughout the years, and knows Minworth inside-out.

Both CIWEM members and non-members are welcome.

Please note that as this is a site tour of a sewage treatment works, PPE, including steel toe cap boots and a high visibility vest is obligatory. If you do not have any PPE, please contact Gen Yip well in advance of the visit.

Part of the CIWEM Wastewater and Biosolids series.
