Webinar United Kingdom

Free to attend

Event description

The Tyne and Humber branch and CIWEM Arts and Environment Network invite you to a webinar looking the the network’s story so far, and the role that the nexus between art and environment is playing today at putting creativity at the heart of environmental policy and action.

The talk will be given by Dave Pritchard HonFCIWEM and AEN chair, followed by a question and answer session.

In 2007, CIWEM launched a pioneering programme on Arts and the Environment, led by the Arts and Environment Network (AEN) which continues today. Influential in creating new alliances across disciplines at national and local levels, this confounded the expectations of many who began with a relatively limited view of what “the arts” could contribute. In subsequent years it has become increasingly apparent that smarter understandings about cultural values, attitudes, perceptions and meanings attached to the environment are often best fostered through the growing area of contemporary arts practices that deal with ecology, ethics, place-making, community empowerment, future visioning, and many other endeavours that go far beyond merely making artworks or communicating through aesthetics.

The AEN has worked hard to promote this through research, policy, action and awareness, in order to grow the expanded skills and insights that can offer a broader repertoire of responses to the water and environmental management challenges we face.
