18 March 2020
CIWEM’s UDG training day is a popular event in the CIWEM calendar. The event in recent years has sold out and is targeted at relatively new recruits to the water and built environment sectors, those looking to top-up their learning or wanting to learn about a new topic. This year’s CIWEM Urban Drainage Group’s training day will focus on SuDS delivery.
There are multiple benefits of SuDS that are being recognised by the water and built environment sectors with local government, and now increasingly Water and Sewerage Companies (WaSCs) involved in supporting SuDS delivery. 2020 should provide many opportunities to mainstream SuDS delivery. In April 2020, Ofwat’s Code of Adoption Agreements will be amended to allow WaSCs to adopt SuDS that can be defined as sewers for new developments with the introduction of Design Construction Guidance that includes SuDS. Many WaSCs have included plans for the retrofitting of SuDS in their business plans for April 2020.
The training day will provide an overview of SuDS and outline how the new Design and Construction Guidance can support their adoption. It will also cover the opportunity and challenge of retrofitting SuDS, with interactive sessions on SuDS adoption, approaches to identify different types of opportunities, assess options and evaluate benefits for SuDS delivery. It will also showcase leading examples of retrofitting delivered by local government and WaSCs. There will also be practical exercises on retrofitting SuDS and approaches to secure collaboration and partnership funding.
You will hear from representatives from consultancies, water companies and local authorities delivering SuDS will provide presentations and facilitate the practical sessions. This is an opportunity to hear from those that are planning, designing, approving and delivering SuDS in a variety of contexts. You will also hear from peers from relevant professions and organisations involved in the delivery of SuDS recognising the need for multiple disciplines to work together to deliver multiple benefits.
The training will be useful for those with an interest in SuDS and understanding how SuDS can be delivered by local authorities and WaSCS. The day will focus on the approach to optioneering, understanding benefits, retrofitting and partnerships rather than the technicalities of SuDS design.
The day is supported with technical input from Arup, Atkins, Cardiff City Council, Northumbrian Water, Stantec and WRc.Book now
