Developing the next generation of urban drainage professionals: technical insight, practical skills, and professional growth.

The CIWEM Urban Drainage Group (UDG) New Members’ Group Study Weekend 2026 is a dedicated two-day event aimed at early career professionals (ECPs) and those new to the urban drainage sector. The weekend brings together technical learning, applied workshops, and professional development support to help attendees build capability and confidence in a rapidly evolving industry.

Key topics:

  • Application of AI and automation in urban drainage workflows
  • Sewer network modelling uncertainty and assurance
  • Translating modelling outputs into business planning and investment decisions
  • CIWEM competency development and chartership progression
  • Peer-to-peer learning and presentation skills development

The weekend will include a mix of presentations, interactive workshops, and peer-led sessions, alongside a SuDS-based site walk to explore real-world applications of sustainable drainage in an urban setting.

​Call for Papers – Peer Presentations

We are inviting submissions from early career professionals and new members who would like to present as part of the peer presentation session on Day 1.

Abstracts are welcome on any urban drainage–related topic, including (but not limited to) modelling, SuDS, storm overflows, asset performance, innovation, or project experience. This is an opportunity to share your work, gain feedback, and develop your presentation skills in a supportive environment.

Selected contributors will deliver:

  • 15-minute presentation
  • 5-minute Q&A session

Please note there is limited capacity at this event. Bookings must be made through 'My CIWEM' using the above booking link. Non-members who have not registered for the MyCIWEM system can create an account on the booking page in order to reserve their place.
