Event description

In Scotland, approximately 14% of watercourses classified under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) are less than ‘Good’ for morphology. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) are tasked with improving the status of degraded waterbodies in Scotland and in order to achieve this, the Water Environment Fund (WEF) is in place. The fund is available for projects which seek to improve the geomorphology and physical condition of degraded watercourses in Scotland whilst also achieving a range of other benefits.

AECOM have been involved in developing and designing two urban river restoration schemes in Scotland, the Levern Water in Barrhead and the Bathgate Water in Bathgate, with a further scheme on the Tollcross Burn in Sandyhills Park currently in construction. Our speaker, Sally Homoncik will discuss the benefits and challenges associated with developing urban river restoration schemes in Scotland and present some lessons learned from her work so far.

This webinar is part of the CIWEM Land and Water Management digital series.
