Event description

This event provides an opportunity to visit HR Wallingford’s state-of-the-art UK Ship Simulation Centre. Delegates will learn how ship simulators contribute to safe navigation in ports including the training of new marine pilots and tug masters, as well as allowing them to test proposed new layouts of ports.

The Ship Simulation Centre houses the latest evolution of HR Wallingford’s advanced navigation simulation technology including: four real-time ship simulators comprising two ship bridges and two tug bridges. Each simulator's fully functioning bridge is surrounded by a 360 degree simulated field of view.

The visit will comprise a 20 minute presentation on HR Wallingford’s ship and tug simulators by Dr Mark McBride. This will be followed by demonstrations in the Ship Simulation Centre including the interaction of the ship simulator with one of the tug simulators. Delegates may even get the opportunity to pilot a vessel.

Part of the CIWEM Technology series.
