CIWEM Welsh branch invite you to this evening lecture on climate change with Professor Jim Poole. In this talk, Jim will explore the issue of climate change in the widest possible context. He asks three questions: “How did we get where we are? Where are the emissions taking us? What happens next?” In addressing these questions, he draws on the disciplines of ecology, global economics, behaviour change and social justice.
With so much attention now being given to climate change, this talk will provide key insights into how, collectively, we might address this existential risk to our shared future.
About the speaker:
Jim Poole is well placed to consider these issues. He is an environmentalist with 42 years professional experience. For the last twenty years he has been at the forefront of sustainability thinking within Wales; since 2007 he has concentrated on climate change, providing in particular a focus for climate adaptation. Beyond Wales, he has been heavily involved in the UK Climate Change Risk Assessment and is currently advising the Irish Government In relation to its corresponding exercise. At the other end of the scale he has worked with local authorities and town councils in Wales to develop responses to climate change “on the ground”. Since 2002, Jim has been a Visiting Professor in Sustainability at Cardiff University, where he has sought to promote discussion between academics from different disciplines.
Refreshments available from 5.30pm with time to network before the seminar starts at 6:00pm
