Population growth and the uncertainties associated with climate change are placing ever-growing pressure on our water resources. Planning to deliver resilient, affordable plans that balance supply and demand, protect the environment and are customer-focused is increasingly challenging. However, this challenge needs to be met to avoid what Environment Agency Executive Director James Bevan has termed “the jaws of death” - the point in time at which we will not have enough water to meet our needs.
New technical approaches to water resources planning are being developed this year and implemented as the regulatory framework continues to evolve. Yet these are uncertain times: policies on funding and ownership of water companies face increasing levels of scrutiny, and climate change predictions suggest more frequent summers like 2018.
At this pivotal point in water resource planning, this conference explores what it will take to ensure future water needs are met alongside meeting the goal of the 25 Year Environment Plan to enhance the environment for the next generation.
At this conference we will be holding a quickfire round focused on problem-solving. We invite you to submit your case study of an innovative approach to addressing a water resources challenge by 3 October 2019. For more information or to submit please email firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be selecting five of the proposed case studies which will then be presented on this panel. We look forward to receiving you submission!
