A Waterwise webinar with support from The Institute of Water and CIWEM

Event description

Waterwise is hosting a free webinar on water neutrality which will continue the conversation following the publishing of their report 'A Review of Water Neutrality in the UK' earlier this year. The review carried out by Waterwise and a steering group of water companies has collated the literature and case studies on the benefits and barriers to water neutral new development.

Millions of new homes will be built in the UK by 2050, which will put additional pressure on our water resources. So what if we built all the new homes water neutrally, meaning they wouldn't add additional water demand to our networks? We've heard of carbon neutrality and biodiversity net gain so why not water neutrality as well?

This webinar will present this work, and bring together experts in the planning and development worlds, to discuss how we can turn this concept into the reality here in the UK.

We will be considering how water companies might work with local councils and developers to get pilot schemes off the ground. We will also consider what changes to government policy, building regulations, and the planning system are needed to make water neutral development happen at scale.

Register for 20 May 2021

About the speakers

Chair of the webinar is Rachel Elliot, Scottish Water. Speakers include, Alan Turner from Kent County Council, Rob Lawson from Artesia, Ben Earl from Skewb UK, and more to be confirmed.
