Open course - Immediate access to all modules
Tailored to give the trainee the opportunity to understand the sources and consequences of Non-Revenue Water (NRW), and to implement practical strategies for leak detection, sectorisation, and leak repair, with a focus on real-world applications.
Is this course for you?
This training course is designed for water utility managers, network engineers, technicians, and operators involved in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of drinking water distribution systems. It is particularly well-suited for professionals aiming to reduce water losses, improve network performance, and enhance revenue recovery.
What’s covered?
● Definition and classification of Non-Revenue Water (NRW)
● Consequences and root causes of water loss in drinking water networks
● Leak detection: importance, methods, and challenges
● Sectorisation: principles and practical implementation
● Overview of leak detection techniques:
○ Electro-acoustic methods (pre-location, cross-correlation, pinpointing)
○ Hydrophone-based detection
○ Tracer gas techniques (helium, nitrogen/hydrogen mixtures)
● Leak management and repair process: steps and best practices
● Planning and implementing an NRW reduction action plan
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
● Define and explain the concept of Non-Revenue Water (NRW)
● Identify the main causes of water loss and their consequences
● Understand the principle of DMAs and its application
● Identify and apply the key steps in leak detection and repair
● Perform electro-acoustic pre-location, cross-correlation, and pinpointing
● Recognise and evaluate alternative detection methods using hydrophones
● Describe the use of tracer gases in leak detection, including preparation, injection, and analysis
● Develop and initiate an effective action plan to reduce water losses in a drinking water network
By registering for this course, you’ll receive unlimited and free access to a catalog of 40 training modules covering essential topics such as drinking water supply and production, wastewater treatment, electromechanics, asset management, and climate resilience.
