Hosted by the CIWEM Tyne & Humber branch
Event description
This webinar is the first of a two-part event hosted by the CIWEM Tyne & Humber branch showcasing the York Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS). The webinar provides an overview of the scheme and will be followed by a site walkover in York city centre to view parts of the scheme in-person on 27 September. The webinar and walkover will both be led by Mark Fuller, Senior User at the Environment Agency for the Foss Flood Cell.
The city of York is prone to frequent flooding, situated on low-lying land where the River Foss joins the River Ouse. Climate change and land management have caused floods to become more severe. The York FAS aims to manage water better by implementing a host of measures across 18 flood cells in the city, including upgrades to the Foss Barrier, raised defences, seepage mitigation and flood storage.
Join us for one or both events to learn more about the scheme as it nears completion. Separate registrations are required for the webinar and walkover. Both events are open to all however numbers will be limited to 15 places for the walkover.
Part of the CIWEM Flood Resilience series.
