As an independent charity we promote professional standards, impartiality and the use of scientific evidence in the management of the environment, our assessors and reviewers play a vital role in achieving this through ensuring we champion:

  • Highly qualified water and environmental managers, engineers and scientists who are recognised globally for their professional expertise and conduct.
  • Protection of the public from pollution, environmental destruction and natural hazards through the promotion and sharing of best practice.
  • Application of scientific and engineering rigour and impartiality to plans and policies ensuring the best outcomes for society, both now and in the future.

Scientists, engineers and environmentalists contribute amazing things to this world, and joining as an assessor or interviewer means you are supporting future generations and helping CIWEM to build a global community of professionals who are dedicated to working for the public benefit.

Written applications to Membership of CIWEM, as well as the additional registrations offered by CIWEM for Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Scientist (CSci) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), are reviewed by trained CIWEM Assessors. CIWEM Assessors play a vital role in the application process, ensuring CIWEM’s high professional standards are maintained throughout the assessment process.

CIWEM Assessors ensure all candidates receive a consistent standard across all applications and constructive feedback on their submissions.

Applications to Chartership of CIWEM (C.WEM), as well as the additional registrations offered, including Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), undertake a Professional Review Interview (PRI), undertaken by a panel of trained CIWEM Interviewers. CIWEM Interviewers play a vital role in the application process, ensuring CIWEM’s high professional standards are maintained throughout the assessment process.

CIWEM Interviewers ensure all candidates receive a consistent standard across all applications and constructive feedback on their submissions.

How to apply?

Applications to join as an assessor or reviewer are open to all active Chartered Member of CIWEM. All assessors and reviewers are required to maintain up to date CPD records.

Interested individuals are required to submit a short application form, please email membership@ciwem.org to obtain a copy. All applicants will be required to undertake training prior to undertaking the role, further details will be provided upon application.
