Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Specialist Panel

Role and Function

Our Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Specialist Panel provides expert advice for CIWEM and is a sounding board for current and new initiatives. Originally formed from Rivers and Coastal Group and Urban Drainage Group members, the Panel enables CIWEM to deliver technical and policy outputs to a consistently high standard in this subject area. It acts as a focal point, bringing together practitioners working in the area or for whom FCERM is a particular area of interest or expertise, and includes professionals from across the public and private sectors. For more information about our work on FCERM, please visit the flooding page.

The Specialist Panel recently published a Policy Position Statement on FCERM, and also provided expertise for our consultation responses to the Environment Agency's Draft National FCERM Strategy for England, and for the EFRA Committee's Coastal flooding and adaptation inquiry.

If you are a CIWEM member working in FCERM or have an interest or expert knowledge and would like to join the panel, please email policy@ciwem.org for more information. Membership of the Specialist Panel is a great way to keep in touch with our work on flooding and to engage with peers.

  • Engage, inform and assist the government and other bodies on FCERM
  • Advocate best practice globally
  • Contribute to the range of CIWEM activities
  • Raise its profile as an established network at conferences and events
  • Assist in the production of a range of policy outputs

If you have experience of working in FCERM and would like to join the Specialist Panel, please email Alastair Chisholm for more information.
