As governments across the globe declare climate emergencies, CIWEM recognises the existential crises humankind faces from global overheating, extreme weather events (including flooding) and wildlife loss.
With environmental professionals holding the key to developing and implementing solutions to the climate and ecological emergency, we have launched ‘Adapting for tomorrow’s environment’; an online programme highlighting the role that the water and environmental management sector plays in shaping a more sustainable future.
The programme features stories from across the sector that support a multidisciplinary approach to mitigation, adaptation and resilience, and seeks to highlight the innovative ways in which technology and nature based solutions are being used for the benefit of local communities and future generations.
Presented by Tom Heap (BBC News, Countryfile, Panorama) the full programme comprises of several short feature films covering projects in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa from participants Atkins, BAM Nuttall, Bristol City Council, Jacobs, South Tyneside Council, The Walker Institute (University of Reading) and Volker Stevin. These films sit alongside interviews from leading industry experts including Terry Fuller, Chief Executive, CIWEM; Emma Howard-Boyd, Chair, Environment Agency; and Mark Lloyd, Chief Executive, The Rivers Trust.
‘Adapting for tomorrow’s environment’ is freely accessible online to CIWEM members and non-members around the world. Through these stories, we hope to provide opportunities for the exchange of ideas and practices whilst maintaining the application of scientific rigour and impartiality.
