CIWEM announces a new Business Partnership with Fathom

The partnership with CIWEM will focus on connecting the institute’s membership to Fathom’s breadth of expertise. Included in this will be the development of educational resources including an upcoming CPD accredited course.

Fathom sets a new benchmark in global flood risk management through the delivery of its scientific-based approach to hydrology and research. The modeller uses cutting-edge technology and the most up-to-date methods to deliver detailed flood prediction models for risk assessment, climate change analysis and resilience management. With UK-specific and global flood models, Fathom has long-established expertise in the development of robust flood hazard data and catastrophe models.

Most recently, the organisation developed a first-of-a-kind global Digital Elevation Model (DEM) in collaboration with the University of Bristol. For engineers and water professionals, this enables specialists to rapidly and accurately simulate flood hazard for both current and future climate scenarios.

Its partnership with CIWEM will focus on connecting the institute’s membership to Fathom’s breadth of expertise. Included in this will be the development of educational resources including an upcoming CPD accredited course. Having been founded out of the University of Bristol’s Hydrology Group in 2013, Fathom remains committed to the academic and industry advancement in its understanding of water and climate risk - to which this partnership will contribute.

Darren Eckford, Head of Learning and Development Services of CIWEM said, "We are proud to announce this partnership with Fathom and look forward to working with them to develop professional development resources that incorporate Fathom's cutting edge technology and industry leadership. The aim of the CIWEM Business Partnership programme is to partner with organisations to further professional development and build a community of water and environmental professionals dedicated to working towards the public benefit, and this partnership represents our joint commitment to that aim.

Partnering with CIWEM is a natural choice for Fathom,” explains Ruth, Business Development Manager at Fathom. “Both organisations are guided by the science, the promotion of best practice and knowledge sharing needed to tackle the growing challenges posed by flood risk across the globe. This partnership should enable Fathom to continue to share our cutting edge research with the practitioners who are helping to build resilience against flooding into the future.”
