CIWEM Honorary Fellows 2021: nominations now open

Nominations to become a CIWEM Honorary Fellow are now open, and CIWEM members and volunteers alike can put someone they admire forward for this prestigious accolade.

Our Honorary Fellow programme recognises people who are not normally members of CIWEM, or necessarily working directly in the water and environmental management field, that have made an incredible contribution to shape the future of the water and environment profession as well as that of CIWEM itself.

The programme has seven different categories of award which are: business, research and education, government, philanthropy, diversity & inclusion, international and service to CIWEM.

In 2020, two people were named Honorary Fellows (HonFCIWEM): Global Water leader & Arup Fellow Mark Fletcher and CEO of Northern Ireland Water Sara Venning. And we are confident that this success story will be replicated this year.

Past Honorary Fellows have included flood resilience campaigner Mary Dhonau OBE – read more from Mary in learning from the flood survivors who built back better – Sir David Attenborough and Waterwise managing director Nicci Russell.

Commenting CIWEM chair Paul Seeley said: "The nomination and ultimately successful award of an Honourary Fellow of CIWEM is a prestigious award that is granted to those people in the water and environmental sphere who we believe have made a difference.

"CIWEM makes these awards once a year and the Institution is very keen to receive nominations from all sectors of our community. We would like to see nominations from people who are leaders in delivering environmental improvement or championing the issues which have been at the fore of the environmental agenda over the last year. This may be an individual who has participated on the global stage but equally may be someone closer to home who has worked hard to safeguard the local environment.

"If you think you know of a suitable individual then we, here at CIWEM, would be delighted to hear from you."

To get involved make sure you read the CIWEM HF Guidance for nomination 2021, fill in the Honorary Fellows Nomination Form 2021 and send it by email to: governance@ciwem.org. by midday on Wednesday 30th June 2021.

Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.

No communication should be entered into with the nominee concerning the nomination.

The Nominations Committee will consider all of the nominations and will make recommendations to the Board Trustees for their approval. Successful nominees will be contacted and offered the Honorary Fellowship and those that accept will be announced at our Presidential Induction (typically held in September).

If you have any questions please email goverance@ciwem.org or call +44(0)207 831 3110.
