CIWEM welcomes new Chair, Annie Shepperd OBE, to champion global water and environmental efforts

CIWEM is delighted to announce Annie Sheppard OBE has been appointed as new Chair, after a unanimous decision from CIWEM Trustees.

Annie’s dedication to addressing climate change and her extensive experience in good governance and leading high performing organisations, make her the perfect candidate to lead CIWEM's global initiatives.

Annie Shepperd currently serves as the Chief Executive for Salix Finance, a government-owned company that drives the decarbonisation of the public sector in the UK. Under her tenure, Salix Finance has championed numerous successful programmes that are significantly contributing to the UK’s net zero agenda. Later this year Annie is leaving Salix.

Annie was awarded the OBE in 2017 for her services to energy efficiency and child protection. This recognition further highlights her commitment to creating a better, more sustainable world for future generations.

CIWEM Trustee Pete Brooks expressed his excitement about Annie's appointment, saying, "We are absolutely delighted to welcome Annie to CIWEM. Her passion, expertise, and leadership will be invaluable in guiding our organisation towards greater global impact. We know that Annie comes to us with a strong record of supporting and developing staff, and her commitment to equality and good governance makes our Trustees optimistic about our future influence in the world."

Annie expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, stating, "I am honoured to join CIWEM as its Chair. Thank you to the Trustees for their vote of confidence. I am determined to live up to your expectations. The enthusiastic CIWEM staff are dedicated to working for the improvement of our environment so that people all over our world can access clean and plentiful water. Many people still do not have this. I wish to be able to take my grandchildren to the seaside in the summer, and now we know that families are worrying about raw sewage being discharged into our seas. There is still so much to achieve in water management.

The quality of our environment matters and the committed staff at CIWEM want to work with our industries to make a difference. Now is the time for people working in the fields of water and environment to join CIWEM and support our mission.

I look forward to working with the Trustees and staff and to working closely with CIWEM's members to amplify our impact and influence worldwide. Together, we want to safeguard our planet's most precious resource, water, for future generations."

By appointing Annie Shepperd OBE as Chair, CIWEM reinforces its commitment to addressing the world's most pressing environmental challenges. CIWEM aims to expand its membership base and strengthen its position as a global authority on water and environmental management.
