CIWEM Unveils "The Ripple Effect" Digital Series

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) has launched an ambitious digital campaign in collaboration with Content With Purpose (CWP) to showcase the essential work of water and environmental management professionals.

The campaign, titled 'The Ripple Effect: Inspiring a Resilient Environment', is a dynamic series featuring thought-provoking content highlighting the critical importance of climate resilience and environmental stewardship.

Through a captivating mix of short films, interviews, and case studies, The Ripple Effect brings together the innovators, leaders, and collaborators who are driving the change needed to confront today’s environmental challenges. This series not only addresses the pressing issues of climate change and extreme weather but also emphasises the necessity for collective action at all levels of society to ensure a cleaner, more biodiverse planet for future generations.

The series is seeking to achieve the following objectives:

  • Inspire the water and environment sector to develop solutions for our rapidly changing world
  • Advance Interest in the profession, attract the next generation and promote diversity
  • Showcase thought leadership, best practice, excellence in collaboration, research and innovation
  • Encourage collaboration between water and environment professionals, and adjacent sectors
  • Promote skills development and CPD opportunities

  • This follows the launch of Adapting for Tomorrow's Environment, created by CWP (formerly ASN Media) and CIWEM back in 2020. The series was presented by Tom Heap, and featured expert comment from Emma Howard Boyd, Chair, Environment Agency, and Mark Lloyd, Chief Executive of The River’s Trust.
  • Championing collaboration and innovation

    As the world faces escalating climate risks, the series underscores the urgent need for cross-sector collaboration. The content will explore key areas such as drought and flood management, water governance, and climate adaptation. It aims to inspire viewers by showcasing groundbreaking solutions and the expertise required to build a resilient, thriving world.

    Featured in the series are stories from leading organisations such as RAIN, Reclaim the Rain, Devon County Council/Devon Resilience Innovation Project (DRIP), Project Groundwater, APEM, SRK Consulting, AtkinsRealis, Zurich Alliance, UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR), and Marshalls PLC. These narratives highlight real-world examples of how innovative approaches and dedicated professionals are making a tangible difference in safeguarding our planet.

    Voices of expertise

    The Ripple Effect also amplifies the voices of distinguished experts in the field. Among them are Andy Graham, Senior Project Manager of Community Wetlands at WWT; Jim Hall, Professor of Climate and Environmental Risks at the University of Oxford; Steve Omerod, Deputy Chair of Natural Resources Wales; Ceris van de Vyver, Director of CV Water Consultancy; and Ece Ozdemiroglu, Founding Director of eftec. Their insights provide valuable perspectives on the interconnected challenges of climate resilience, community well-being, and sustainable development.

    The series features additional contributions from inspiring organisations such as Spains Hall Estate, Eddington, Thames21, Aire Resilience, Southeast Rivers Trust, and Chiltern Society. These stories delve into the impacts of agriculture on water management, the delicate balance between urban development and water scarcity, and the vital role of citizen science in river conservation.

    Driving home the message

    Anna Daroy, CEO of CIWEM, emphasised the significance of the campaign: "The Ripple Effect digital series with CWP underscores the indispensable role of climate resilience in securing our future. By highlighting the pioneering efforts of those on the front lines, we aim to demonstrate the critical importance of collaboration in protecting our planet’s ecosystems and ensuring a sustainable legacy for generations to come."
