A festive word from our CEO

Since joining CIWEM in April, I’ve met many of our members, discovering a community of professionals and organisations who are highly committed to the role they play in water and environmental management - roles set against increasing challenges, not least from climate change.

It's clear to me that this profession – which this year has felt rather under fire from the media and politicians at times – is of critical importance to our future sustainability and prosperity. We’ve sought to champion these outcomes, and to support the delivery of solutions and good practice that you, as experienced practitioners, understand the most. We’ll continue to do this with an even louder voice in 2025.

2024 has been a year of considerable change for CIWEM. We’re midway through transforming our digital infrastructure, enabling us to be a modern, efficient and effective institution, supporting your professional needs and championing your visions for the future. On top of all that, we’re improving your interactions and engagement with us through our redeveloped members area and application portal, along with a refreshed strategy for growth.

We’re here to support you, our members. But we also rely heavily on your generous support as volunteers and ambassadors for CIWEM in so many capacities. It’s you who give weight and legitimacy to what we say and do. It’s you who add richness and diversity to all our activities. From acting as assessors and interviewers, to sitting on a CIWEM committee or group, to supporting peers and colleagues through chartership, your ongoing support, the great work you carry out, and your enthusiasm, all sit at the core of CIWEM’s membership and professional standards.

I’d like to thank you for welcoming me so warmly as the CIWEM CEO, and to pass on the thanks of the directors and trustee board for everything you’ve done for CIWEM this year. We look forward to working together and supporting you even more in 2025.
