Share your efforts to combat air pollution for World Environment Day

CIWEM is pleased to support the Society for the Environment and its partners in their efforts to champion World Environment Day 2019 and we’d like our members to provide their case studies and expertise to help. The theme this year is "air pollution".

The global theme announced recently by UN Environment is a growing environmental concern that will benefit from a heightened level of public awareness and organisational action. The Society for the Environment is in a unique, multidisciplinary position that allows and encourages knowledge transfer across sectors for public benefit.

Claire Holman CEnv and Chair of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) highlights the severity of air pollution:

“Air pollution is a global public health crisis causing unnecessary early mortality and ill heath at a huge economic cost to society. It also impacts on our natural environment altering habitats. World Environment Day 2019 is a great opportunity to increase awareness of this, the world’s most pressing environmental issue of the 21st century.”

CIWEM is requesting air pollution / clean air case studies, good practice tips, reports, vlogs and infographics from environmental professionals and organisations.

  • What is your organisation doing to reduce its impact on air quality internally and/or externally?
  • Do you have anything special planned to reduce your contribution to air pollution?
  • What is being done to address the issue?
  • How is your organisation leading on the reduction of harmful emissions?

Items will be included on the soon to be created air pollution hub on the Society’s website and shared to build awareness of air pollution and showcase good practice. An example case study from a plastic themed 2018 can be viewed here, but the template is flexible to accommodate different lengths and styles.

Please send ideas and submissions to phil.underwood@socenv.org.uk between now and the 05 June.
