The East Midland's Branch covers a geographical region that is
based on the river Trent basin; it includes Leicestershire;
Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and Lincoln. The region includes
rural areas of the Peak District with its high rainfall and many
impounding reservoirs. In the east the area is less elevated and
flat with lower rainfall and a number of nitrate protection zones.
The region has no coastline so all sewage is treated to high
standards. The urban areas of Derby; Nottingham and Leicester are
well established. The region is traversed by the M1 and is served
by the Midland main railway line its airport is based at Castle
Donnington adjacent to the M1.
Events
The main function of the East Midland's Branch is to organise a
programme of events at a local level on subjects relevant to its
branch membership. Unless otherwise indicated in the programme
meetings start at 17:30 with some light refreshments, followed by a
presentation that starts at 18:00. There is time for questions and
we normally finish by 19:30. Thanks to sponsorship from regional
employers, there is normally no charge for the evening technical
meetings.
We normally arrange at least one conference each year, a
graduate student paper competition, and a social event in the
summer. The Branch also arranges a Gala Dinner for members and
guests: a great networking event. Full details of each meeting are
sent to branch members. Visitors and guests are welcome and
committee members will be pleased to provide information about how
to join CIWEM. We collaborate with a number of other professional
bodies and organise joint events where appropriate. Please contact
us if you have any queries or suggestions about future events.
