Rivers and Coastal Group information
Welcome to the Rivers and Coastal Group website. We are one of
two specialist groups within CIWEM. Formed 60 years ago, the Group
continues to enjoy success.
The Group has almost 1000 members who come from the government
organisations including the Environment Agency (England and Wales),
Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Scotland) and Office of
Public Works (Ireland), consultants, contractors, local authorities
and the academic world. Membership of the group is open to any
CIWEM member who is engaged in river or coastal management and new
members are always welcome.

New Members Competition
A new approach to funding: where is the money
coming from?
Members of CIWEM (any grade including graduate and
student) within 10 years of joining the industry / institution are
eligible and the competition is open to individuals or teams. If
entering as a team, at least one person should be a member.

The 2012 New Members Competition is entitled 'A new approach to
funding: where is the money coming from?'
This Competition presents a case study: 'planning for investment
through a Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy or a
Local Flood Risk Management Strategy'. There is a choice of two
sets of questions to answer, dependent on whether members wish to
focus on Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategies or
Local Flood Risk Management Strategies.
This competition is open to members of CIWEM within 10 years of
joining the industry / institution and can be entered by
individuals or teams. Full details are included in the flyer -

The submission date for the competition has recently been
extended to the 18th May 2012, and sumbmissions should be sent to
gavin.holder@havant.gov.uk
Submissions will be judged during May and three successful
finalists will be invited to give a PowerPoint presentation of
their entry at the CIWEM RCG and WaPUG Study Weekend held from 22nd
to 24th June 2012 at Kingston Upon Hull. Therefore entrants should
ensure they are available to attend the Study weekend on the 22nd
to 24th June 2012.
Prizes up for grabs for the three finalists are:
• winning entry £500 plus winner's trophy;
• runner-up £200;
• third prize £100.
